According to satirical online newspaper The Daily Currant on December 11, Native Americans gathered at the Native Peoples Council (NPC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to debate about 400 years of illegal immigration to North America.
Native leaders consider the people mainly arriving from England, France and Spain as part of European colonization, illegally settling on land that was occupied by native Americans.
The council's leaders discussed "several proposals on the future of this continent's large, unauthorized European population" reports the satirical newspaper The Daily Currant. The elders ultimately decided to extend a pathway to citizenship for those without criminal backgrounds.
"We are prepared to offer White people the option of staying on this continent legally and applying for citizenship," explains Chief Wamsutta of the Wampanoag nation. "In return, they must pay any outstanding taxes and give back the land stolen from our ancestors.
"I can't believe we're just going to let them pay a fine. They should get to the back of the line like everybody else -- behind the Mexicans" said the Chief further.
Well, obviously this is a piece of satire. However, in times of harsh immigration and refugee debates and policies conducted in the United States and Europe, it's a good reminder of human migration history.
